Outline

Takao Shimizu Glycerophospholipids are a major constituent of cellular membrane. They also serve as precursors of various lipid mediators (eicosanoids, platelet-activating factor, lysophosphatidic acid etc.) involved in inflammation and immune responses. We are exploring the mechanism and output of membrane diversity, and various functions of lipid mediators by biochemical and genetic approaches. Using a lipidomics approach (LC-MS/MS), we are profiling glycerophospholipids and lipid mediators to find out disease biomarkers. Our laboratory accepts undergraduate and graduate students, clinicians and medical staffs interested in lipid metabolism (open seminars, laboratory work etc.).
